Description

The current implementation of common role has hard-coded backup patterns. While this works very well for the server systems, it can cause issues in case of workstations that have a lot of data, particularly a lot of data in the /home/ directory.

It would be beneficial to make the backup patterns configurable, at least in case of directories that can contain a lot of data.

The following should be done:

  • Separate backup patterns into two groups.
  • First group should consist out of patterns that will be reasonably small no matter what the system purpose is (i.e. logs, shadow file etc). This should remain to be a hard-coded value.
  • The second group should consist out /root/ and /home/. This should be a configurable value - mainly in order to be able to fine-tune the home directory backup. By keeping the values as defaults, backwards-compatibility can be preserved.
