Description

When using compatibility_level configuration option, Postfix can warn the user about eventual compatibility issues that the user should pay attention to. These are usually changes in default parameter values, but also sometimes changes in behaviour.

Unfortunately, currently there are no tests that check for compatibility warnings, and it looks like those warnings are only triggered during runtime.

It would be useful to try to figure out if warning tests could be implemented in some other manner (by sending mails etc).

The following should be done:

  • Analyse if it is possible/easy to test for compatibility warnings reported by Postfix when compatibility_level value is bumped up.
  • Implement the necessary tests for mail_server and mail_forwarder roles.
  • Update role reference documentation.
  • Update usage instructions.
  • Update release notes.
