Description

The mail_server role currently uses the mail_server_smtpd_submission_protocols internal parameter in order to deal with differences between Postfix versions in Debian 11 Bullseye and Debian 12 Bookworm distribution releases. Primary reason is that in Debian 11 Bullseye, it is not possible to use the >= operator for specifying minimum TLS version used.

Once support for Debian 11 Bullseye has been dropped, the role can be refactored to do away with this internal parameter.

The following should be done:

  • Update the mail_server role.
    • Drop the mail_server_smtpd_submission_protocols internal parameter.
    • Switch to using the >= syntax for specifying the minimum TLS version for the SMTP server (Postfix).
  • Update role reference documentation.
  • Update usage instructions.
  • Update release notes.
